The GOTS organic cotton certification
Here at Lafyne we place an emphasis on baby products which use organic cotton with a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification. But what exactly does GOTS mean and how does it differ from standard organic cotton?
With a large percentage of cotton coming from countries including India, South America, China and Pakistan, it is at times hard for the cotton industry to regulate all aspects of the cotton production and supply chain. Buying ‘organic cotton’ for example does not necessarily mean that it has been produced in an ethical manner abiding to certain social values (not using child labour, safe and hygienic working conditions, fair employment practises etc) that today we thankfully see as being very important.
The GOTS certification sets a strict framework for both the materials used, the textile supply chain, and also the social aspects of production. From assuring a certain minimum of organic fibres in the cotton, to the management of wastewater and the dying and printing processes, GOTS has become a recognised global label providing a reliable and quality assurance for customers.
In other words, if you are looking for baby products using organic cotton, where you can have full faith that the cotton was produced in a sustainable, socially responsible and ethical way, you should look for the GOTS certification or label.
